Who are Invited to The Masters?

 

The Masters Golf Tournament is a very popular competition in the field of golf. It is an annual competition held at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia since 1934. The Masters was actually the dream of Bobby Jones who was a golf enthusiast who never won a Masters together with Clifford Roberts.

 

The Masters was known back in 1934 as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament and was first won by Horton Smith. It was only in 1939 that the name Masters Golf Tournament came about. However, during the World War II , the tournament was cancelled for three years in 1943, 1944,  and 1945.

 

This tournament is so prestigious that only those who fit the requirements are invited to join. In addition, not everybody can get tickets or badges to The Masters. A single ticket can cost thousands of dollars and it is also hard  to find. This year, the 2008 Masters Tournament Invitees come from different countries where they also excelled in the golf course.

 

Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Richard Green, Geoff Ogilvy, Nick O’Hern, Adam Scott, and John Senden are Masters invitees from Australia. Meanwhile, several Asians will also compete in the Masters. We have K.J. Choi from Korea, Liang Wen Ching from China, Prayad Markaseng from Thailand., and Jeev Milkha Singh from India. On the other hand, two Japanese golfers namely Shingo Katayama and Toru Taniguchi will also be competing in The Masters.

 

South African golfers are also invited to join. They are Tim Clark, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Gary Player, and Richard Terne. In addition, European golfers like Michael Campbell, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Nick Dougherty, Niclas Fosth, Anders Hansen, Soren Hansen, Robert Karlsson, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Henrick Stenson, Lee Westwood, and Ian Woosnam are also among the few invitees.

 

Furthermore, there are also lots of familiar faces who will compete against each other for this challenging tournament. Zach Johnson who was lat year’s winner, Tiger Woods, Ben Crenshaw, Raymond Floyd, Todd Hamilton, Jose Maria Olazabal, Craig Stadler, Ben Curtis, Fred Couples, Daniel Chopra, Jonathan Byrd, and John Rollins  are also invitees to this year’s Masters.

 

Besides these invitees, past Masters champions are also going to witness this exciting golf event. Tommy Aaron, Severiano Ballesteros, Jack Burke Jr., Billy Casper, Charles Coody, Nick Faldo, Doug Ford, Bob Goalby, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer are likewise invited.
